Tracey Edwards

January 4, 2016

Went to see Groove Therapy on 1/2-2016 at Martini & Nuzzi's - what a treat to also witness the talented Ramona Collins! We loved the upbeat, fun and funky show. Ramona is a supreme talent and area treasure.

Once you retire you sit back on the porch and watch the traffic whiz by, no place to go and no place to be. Ahhh retirement. Lol

Ramona, I just got home from sitting in front of you, no one between us, at Moriarity's in Lansing. WHAT an experience! I've heard/seen you before and know how great you are. Tonight, for whatever reason, I was so transported watching you up close and listening, I could barely move.

You ended with a medley from "What's Goin' On." Blew me so far away, my beautiful sister.

Please take care, all the best to you and come back again as soon as you can.

Big hug.
Candice

Mona,
I found your site quite by accident while researching a class reunion for my brother Randy. I sent this link to Leslie and Ken. I know that they will be excited to see how you are doing. I was glad to see that you are still singing. The last time I saw you was at an event in Baldwin, Michigan.
Please be advised that our mother Eloise, passed late last year.
If you speak with Snook, tell him that I have moved back to Lansing and would like to hook up with him.
Take care,
Mark

Time to setup some regular gigs?

Arlene "Annie" Bartley

December 3, 2010

Fri., Dec.3, 2010
Messing around the internet l0oking up various subjects. Came across your website, so I thought I would drop you a line.

How are you doing and how is your family?
I haven't been to a union meetings lately as I have been studying for a particular subject.

Thank you so much for teaching my job years ago at ODJFS (which is one of the many reasons I still have memories of you in my heart).

The most recent gig I see you will be doing is in January, 2011. I was hoping to see if you were having any gigs in December, 2010.

I didn't make it to the union Christmas party December 3 as I am off work with a finger injury. I was hoping to go to the union Christmas party to be able to see you all. I sure miss my former co-workers that formerly worked downtown Toledo in the employment services. You all have such a great sense of humor and outlook on life.

Tom is doing much better these days. One reason is because my son Michael brought allot of harmony to our home last year when Michael asked Tom to teach Michael to play the saxaphone. Michael caught on to the saxaphone in just 3 months (Michael has played an instrument since he was 13).

Both Michael and Tom have become music buddies. Michael has encouraged Tom to try many new things with his music. Michael has encouraged and got Tom to get a vendor's permit to play on the city streets of Toledo. Michael just had Tom go with Michael to Paul Weiss's house for a recording. Low and behold, Tom knows PaulWeiss (it was dejavue all over again when Tom walked into Paul's house).
Tom and Michael have also picked up learning other instruments.

Tom plays his tenor and saprano saxaphone in the church orchestra and does solos. When we go on vacation, we find a church to attend and Tom arranges ahead of time if he can play his saxaphone in their church while we are on vacation.

Michael in the last few months was playing his coronet at Gesu Catholic Church. I saw Gesu's information on their public music program. I did not know that Gesu held public performances. I also saw that you had performed at one of Gesu's public music events.

May God continue bless you.
Annie

dear Ramona
I listen so often to your version of "round midnight" and "sonfg for my father" and like the interpretation of you and your musicians so much! If you ever will have a concert somewhere here in Europe, especially here in the South of Germany, please, let me know. I really would try come to listen to you live. I'm an amateur vocalist, and love to sing jazz and blues with other musicians, but just for pleasure...
and I'm so glad to have found you on youtube, so I can learn a tiny little bit for my own singing, just listen to you...good luck and fortune for you...warm regards. Alegría

Keep it pushing sing until you have nothing.
Ramona here is one of my poems:

Silent screams
The city is full of people and the
Sound loses it’s volume in space…

I walk the city streets and I’m in pain
…but there is no blood; no sign of bruises
My cries are silent… I scream out to the high heavens and
no-one can hear me

How do I turn up the volume?
All the sound is inverted into my soul
It’s the sound of my own cries that batter’s me

My tears are like hot wax on my skin
The sound of my own cries bludgeons me
My suffering is within me

How do I settle my soul?
How do I stop the pain?
How???
I give my silent cries to one who can hear the doves cry…
I give my cries to one who cares; to one who will wipe all my tears away

Dear Ramona,

You are the voice from heaven that opened my eyes and ears to the world of jazz. I have played "Everything Old is New Again" hundreds of times since I got it ten years ago. From songs of new love and lust to broken hearted blues, that CD always fits my mood. Since the mid 90s, chilling at Rusty's Jazz Cafe in Toledo, I have been hooked.

Thanks for all the great shows. I have followed you from Rustys to the Toledo Museum of Art to the Toledo Botanical Gardens. When I see you perform, I like to request a song. Funny thing is, at TBG I requested "When Did You Leave Heaven" and you didn't bring it. Damn. I should of asked for "Loverman". Now I'll have to check you out at the Rouge.

As an art teacher, I have inspired my students to listen to jazz with an open mind. Jazz speaks to you. If you listen, jazz heals you. A couple years ago, when I went through chemotherapy, jazz was my strength, my joy, and my salvation.

Ramona, thank you again for putting your all into your performances and keeping jazz alive in Toledo. I wish you the best on your new CD and look forward to you someday opening your own jazz club.

Best wishes,
Allison

Ramona,
Thanks for doing you!! Your music is amazing and your personality is definitely an asset to life. As I listened to you at the Botanical Gardens I was captured by your sulty soulful jazz sound; as I listened to you share life with the girls at the Inner Girl mentoring session, I was captured by your oppulent heart. Thank you again. I look forward to the next time we meet. See you soon!

Ms. Collins! I was sitting in my room a few minutes ago working on a song and you ran across my mind. I recently got a new phone and lost my address book, so I thought I'd try searching for your contact info on google, and here I've arrived at this amazing website of yours!..

but just a small update: I'm here studying at NYU in the Clive Davis Department of Recorded Music and having the time of my life!

I just wanted to let you know how grateful I am to have worked with you for Act-So and the Cotillion Talent Show. You inspired me in so many ways and I just wanted to say thank you.

I'll be home for the summer in a few weeks, so hopefully I'll get a chance to see you (maybe even performing) before I leave again for the fall semester.

Love always,
Adriele

p.s. - your music is amazing =)

JAZZ DIVA,
It was great talking with you this a.m. I immediately sat down at the computer...IT’S-ALL-ABOUT-YOUR-WEBSITE! The photos--nice touch, (my fav's: "Just Rollin' Along”, “Singin' At Murphy's Place”, & all three of the “Luettke Studio Shots”; (your eyes are evermore probing). You know--I got stuck, (really stuck), navigating your "MUSIC PAGE”. Diva, it should come with a WARNING, a snifter of brandy, a-hand-towel-and-a-smoke! It's like quicksand; I was all-into-it…then got a phone call; late for my appointment…I'll return, (on a stormy day or a free evening)…to "indulge".
Nate
p.s. I guess, (to be perfectly honest), I am partially to blame for my lateness…
I am deffinately interested in collaborating on the project you mentioned--Gotta run--holla!!!
